Kandinsky 1000 Piece Puzzle Yellow Red Blue

In Kandinsky’s work Yellow Red Blue, the painter decided to divide the canvas into different zones based on the sensation he wanted to evoke in the viewer. Indeed, the yellow area on the left appears to advance, while the blue on the right produces an effect of retreat. The combination of simple visual elements creates effects of dynamism and spatiality in the work.

The yellow area is dominated by graphic signs forming the stylized profile of a man. It’s curious, however, to note how, when the work is turned upside down, the same signs create the face of a cat. On the right, after the red and blue areas, we find a very pronounced black line with a serpentine shape that, in a sense, “closes” the entire painting.

We find depth in blue. Blue’s vocation for depth is so strong that it becomes more intense and intimate precisely in the deepest shades. The deeper the blue, the more it evokes the idea of ​​infinity, arousing nostalgia for purity and the supernatural. Blue is the color of the sky; if it is very dark, it conveys a sense of calm. If it plummets to black, it acquires a note of poignant sadness, sinking into a drama that has no end and will never end. If it tends toward lighter tones, it becomes indifferent and distant. The lighter it is, the less eloquent it is, until it reaches a silent stillness: white.
